Women in Combat

Lifting the ban on women in combat

HUGE ISSUE!

This issue has been causing an uproar online!  People are battling over whether this is a good decision or not.  Some say it is a great idea and that women should be allowed to do the job they want.  Some say women can’t do the job as well as the men do.  You got a lot of men and women saying that women are not physically strong enough to do the requirements demanded in combat.  I have seen several people state that a woman‘s emotions would cause issues in combat as well.

Well….I’m pretty sure I’m about to make some people really upset!  My opinion is that it is a bad idea.  I don’t agree with lifting this ban.  Yes, I know there are and have been women in infantry units and such…I still don’t agree with it.

I know several woman are proposing the “equal opportunity” side for this argument, but that gets blown out of proportion.  They set standards and tests that have to be passed in order to be able to serve in combat, but just as soon as one misses the mark and is turned down it becomes a huge battle!  It has happened in the past and it will happen again.  “They were too strict, they weren’t fair, they were too judgemental, they intentionally failed me due to my gender.”  Not all, but a lot of women would “milk” those excuses when in fact, they just weren’t physically fit enough or whatever to pass the tests or the standards put in place.  Bottom line…A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE TO PASS THE SAME PT TESTS AND SUCH AS THE MEN IN ORDER TO FIGHT IN COMBAT.  If a man has to do 70 push ups within a two-minute period…so does the woman!

The physically fit part bothers me too.  I have to admit, I agree with the women that have stated most women just aren’t strong enough to be dependable in combat.  You got a 200lb man needing to be pulled to safety…a 120lb (for example) woman probably wouldn’t be able to handle that situation.  I would think the men would feel better knowing their guys have their back and would have no problems physically pulling them out of harm’s way.  Just my opinion…so don’t take offense please.

Next on the list…emotion.  Yea, I know some are probably rolling their eyes right now.  But the truth is, women are more emotional.  I’m not saying men are all stone cold or anything, but men tend to be more “act now, think later”.  I think that is a good quality in combat.  I would think most women would be more likely to freeze up or hesitate.  Those two reactions are definitely not good in combat zones.  Stress levels run high during a deployment and being in combat raising that stress way above the bar.  Here again, I think men handle high levels of stress a little better.  I know several people are probably thinking about PTSD right now.  And yes, PTSD is a huge problem resulting from deployments, but I still side with men handling their stress and emotions better.

I’m gonna catch hell for this next one!  But here goes!  CNN just published an article called “Unplanned pregnancy on rise in military.”  This is a problem folks.  A unit trains together and prepares for deployment together.  It’s damaging to a unit when women have to stay behind, after training and preparing together, due to unplanned pregnancy.  It is irresponsible.  Yes, I know it takes “two to tango”, but being responsible for your part within the unit is necessary.  Also, this is an issue during deployments.  Here again, completely irresponsible.  It costs the military, as stated in the CNN article, around $10,000 to send a servicewoman home from overseas due to pregnancy.  You get sent home, your unit is down a soldier due to this issue.

So, there you have it!  I know lots of people will disagree with me and that’s ok.  I stand firm on my opinion.  I am more old-fashioned and I was raised that way.  I’m proud of that.  Women can do lots of things that men can…combat just isn’t one of them.

P.S.  I just have to add in this little funny tid bit!  I just ran a spell check and “servicewoman” was underlined in red.  When I clicked on it, the word that popped up (since red means misspelled) was serviceman!  LOL  Damn!!!

Batman movie massacre in Colorado

A 24-year-old guy, James Holmes, decided to go to a theater and shoot as many people as he could. He killed 12 innocent people who were just trying to enjoy a night out at the movies. At least 38 more were injured during the ordeal.

Incidents like this baffle the hell outta me. Why would someone make the decision to intentionally harm and/or kill others for no particular reason? He used at least four weapons, wore a bullet proof vest, gas mask and used smoke bombs. This guy went prepared. He didn’t put up a fight when arrested. It’s almost as if he did this just for the sick recognition that some idiots have done in the past.

Anyway, I hate that this happened to all those innocent people. My heart goes out to the families and friends that were effected by this tragedy.

Arizona mom drives with infant on top of car…damn

Before I get started, here is the CNN link…  http://gma.yahoo.com/blogs/abc-blogs/mother-drives-5-week-old-top-car-164426051–abc-news-topstories.html

OK, now what in the hell was this woman thinkin’???  Her boyfriend had already been arrested that evening for DUI, as a result of being high on marijuana, on the way to buy beer with the child in the car!… and then this chick gets high and drives around with her five-week old son on top of the car.  WTF    The child, strapped in his car seat, falls off the car into the middle of an intersection and this girl has no idea.  She continues to drive while neighbors near this intersection rush to the child.  Thankfully the child is unharmed and in good hands…and the so-called “mom” is arrested.

I just don’t understand it.  A parent is supposed to be loving, caring, responsible and dependable.  If the parent does not want to have and keep those characteristics…there are plenty of good people out there who would love to adopt.  Abusing and neglecting children is probably the worst thing a human being can do.

Anyway, I hope everything works out for this child and I hope this girl learned from this.

Maryland man admits cannibalism

Well…it’s continuing folks!  This is the fourth weird case I have seen in the past three days!

CNN link:  http://www.cnn.com/2012/05/31/justice/maryland-alleged-cannibal/index.html?hpt=hp_t3

Alexander Kinyua has admitted to killing his housemate with a knife, cutting him up and eating his heart and part of his brain.  He put the other remains in a nearby dumpster.

There is another case about a Canadian man as well.  This guy has hacked up body parts and mailed them out to folks!  He even filmed himself doing this.  Police say he recorded a ten minute video and posted it online for all to see.  They say this man also has a YouTube video showing him killing kittens by drowning and asphyxiation and then using the carcasses in sexual acts.

This is insane!  What in the hell are people thinking these days?

Miami Zombie Attack!

Yea, you read the heading correct!  A damn zombie attack…  My first thought….Oh hell, it’s really starting!

Here is the link for the article on CNN    http://news.blogs.cnn.com/2012/05/29/reports-miami-zombie-attacker-may-have-been-using-bath-salts/?hpt=hp_c2

This guy was seriously eating the other guy’s face off!  Don’t ask me why both men were naked…no clue on that one.  In the video, the witness says that the police were yelling for the “zombie” to stop but he just kept right on eating the other guy’s face.  The police officer fired and hit the zombie and he just kept right on eating!  No shit!  Just kept going and going.  The officer then had to fire a few more times to kill the zombie.  It doesn’t say whether or not he had to shoot him in the head, but I’m banking on it!

The police suspect he was using “bath salts”.  I’m not quite sure what that is, but surely it doesn’t cause zombie-like tendencies!  People in the area reported seeing this man walking around looking confused beforehand.  Ummm….zombies look like that all the time folks!  LOL

So, there you have it.  The zombie apocalypse is really starting!  Better refer back to my survival tips quick!

Florida mom shot her kids…

Here is the article from CNN    http://news.blogs.cnn.com/2012/05/22/report-mother-shot-kids-at-very-close-range/?hpt=hp_t3

I was shocked when I read this story.  The first thought, as a mom, is…how could someone do this to their children?  I mean, taking one’s life is one thing…but taking the lives of your children?!?  I do not agree with suicide anyway, but harming your children is the lowest of the low.  The article states that she shot her kids at point-blank range…several times.  The ending was taking her own life.  Now, there are a few things that I question here…

First, this woman had to have had some sort of mental issue going on.  It could have been anger, depression, drugs, etc.  Regardless, I’m sure someone noticed an issue going on.  Why didn’t someone say something?  The article also states that friends and court documents show that the mother and son were having “difficulties”.  Difficulties???  If the courts were involved those “difficulties” were probably kinda serious!  So many times we have seen in the news that cases like this could have been avoided if someone would have stepped in.  The courts were already involved.  Why wasn’t something done or followed up on?  Stop putting these cases on the back burner and pay attention to the households with serious issues.

Second, the article states that three of the kids had gone to a neighbor’s house to say their mom had shot them!  It goes on to say that the mom called them back home and killed them…WTF!  So, these kids went next door bleeding…screaming their mom had shot them…she calls them back and is able to kill them???  I’m a little confused here.  Did the neighbor call the police?  Why did the neighbor allow these children to go back home?  Why would these kids go back home?

I don’t mean to sound harsh and I know I do not know the whole story…but there are so many holes here.  Nothing makes sense to me.  Four children are now dead.  It just seems like this horrible situation could have been avoided.

Here again, these are just my views and opinions.  I do not mean to step on toes or make anyone upset.  I just feel like too many times cases like this fall through the cracks and could be handled before such tragic outcomes happen.  Feel free to comment and leave your opinion on the matter.
