Attraction…how is it measured?

Today, with all the magazine ads and popularity contests and pressure….damn, looking good has become a major headache.

Society plays a major role in appearance today.  Magazines push for the perfect skinny shape with all their clothing ads.  Weight loss companies make a fortune dishing out empty promises and their get skinny quick schemes.  Mean ass women make overweight women feel ugly and gross.  The list goes on and on with the negativity aimed towards overweight women.

We’ve all heard it before…your hair can be curly or straight, but never frizzy, flat, or unkept.  Your face must be free and clear of acne and makeup perfectly applied.  Accessories are a must.  Earrings, rings, bracelets, and necklaces must match the outfit.  Oh and the outfits.  Clothes should be fitted and clingy in all the right places.  The more skin you got showing the better.  Jeans must flaunt your figure and your butt has to have that flattering upside down heart look going on.  Shoes…damn shoes!  Heels, boots, flats…gotta have all different kinds and coordinating them with outfits is a necessity.  And let’s not forget body shape!  It never seems to matter how tall or short a woman is, just the size of her clothes.  Size 0-2 seems to be the going thing.

But do all those things really matter that much?  I mean, my hair usually does whatever the hell it wants to do.  My face has tons of freckles and I rarely wear makeup.  Makeup just seems to be unnecessary to me.  My face needs to breathe dammit!  I don’t wear any jewelry except my wedding rings.  Clothes…just jeans and t-shirts for me.  Yea, sounds lame I know.  Have I wanted to wear those cute designer clothes before?  Sure.  But at the cost of not being myself or trying to fit in just doesn’t appeal to me.  I think I only own three pairs of shoes.  Bodyshape…UGH!  Well, let’s just say round is a shape!  I’m not the skinniest chick and I’m not the biggest, but I’m me.  Shouldn’t that be good enough?

Losing weight is a priority for me.  I admit, I do seem to struggle with the motivation part, but shouldn’t health be the main focus?  Instead of outward beauty being such a main concern, shouldn’t being healthy matter more?

And besides health, what about the idea of who a person really is?  What about their personality, their feelings, their compassion for others?  These qualities make a woman beautiful as well.  Outside looks shouldn’t be so damn important.  So many women and young girls go through hard times battling their weight.  Lots of women don’t feel worthy just because they are the wrong shape and size.  It’s high time everyone stops putting so much focus on those things.  Being happy and healthy need to be priorities.

So, in closing, please throw out the mind paralyzing idea of having to look a certain way to fit in or make someone love you.  Be yourself, whoever that may be.  Make health a priority in your life.  Being healthy will keep you around for a long time and will make you feel better than being a part of any “clique” ever could.

Love yourself.  When you do that, you shine!  That makes you attractive!

Common sense…not so common!

The lack of common sense and stupidity seem to be spreading like wildfire!  I’ll give ya a few examples…

1.  Students at the University of Tennessee have decided to get drunk in new, quicker way folks!  They have been doing….”ALCOHOL ENEMAS”!!!  That’s right people, alcohol enemas!  Ramming a tube up their hind end and pouring in the liquor…What the hell?!?  Last I checked, normal college kids had kegs (and did keg stands) and funnels.  Nowadays they do this shit through the butt!  This causes the idiot to get drunker faster due to the fact that the alcohol is absorbed directly into the blood stream.  But come on!  Is it really worth it?  You obviously are damaging your body in a whole new way and then end up in hospital.  Way to go dumdums!

2.  This one made me not only flinch but I think I threw up a little in my mouth!  A Wisconsin man, Gerald Streator, has been arrested and charged with one count of  lewd and lascivious behavior.  Guess what he was doing….He was having sex with a couch that had been put out on the curb.  Yep….read that one again!  A couch had been placed curb side to be thrown away with trash and here comes this guy!  An off duty police officer actually witnessed this act of nastiness.

3.  Villarreal-Castillo, another genius, decided to break in and burglarize a home.  Owners were not home and he was loading up with all the goodies he wanted until…..he fell asleep!  Uh huh!  Fell asleep on the kitchen floor!  The homeowner comes home to find this guy sleeping in his kitchen with all his “loot” around him.  LOL

4.  Sergio Alvarez….I am still laughing at this one!  This guy strangled a damn pelican to death ya’ll!  He told the police that he was hungry and couldn’t catch any fish!  LMAO    So, I’m guessing he got pissed that the pelican was catching fish and he wasn’t.  Taking out the competition there, buddy?

Health…It is such a huge topic nowadays.  Many people want to change their weight and appearance.  Through talking with several people and reading posts about the struggles we all go through,  I have decided to try a lifestyle change and share it with you.

I recently watched a documentary called Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead by Joe Cross.  Mr. Cross decided to go on a juicing fast for 60 days to reboot and detox his body.  Now, before I go any further…this is not medical advice that I am giving and you should really talk to your doctor before doing this fast.  I am not a doctor or nurse and my intentions are only to inform you of what I have learned and share my experience.

Now, with that said, I watched this documentary and was amazed that the human body could survive for 60 days based only on the consumption of juice from fresh fruits and vegetables.  Mr. Cross totally transformed his body by juicing all kinds of these foods.  He used kale, spinach, cucumbers, apples, oranges, celery, carrots and many others.  He lost a ton of weight and was able to come off the medications that his body was dependent on.  I am not on any medications and I do not have any medical problems that would prohibit me from trying this lifestyle change.  I have juiced over the past couple of weeks but must confess that I have had solid foods within that time as well.  To be honest, I was a little nervous about not consuming “food” for so long.  The idea of not chewing your food kinda hits you the first day or two.  It sounds crazy but you actually miss chewing and eating food.

But I am comfortable enough and determined to change my lifestyle now.  The plan I am about to start consists of 30 days of juicing and moderate exercise.  I will be using foods such as kale, celery, spinach, cucumbers, apples, oranges, carrots, strawberries, cantaloupe, tomatoes, peppers and possibly a few others.  I do not have a set number of times per day to juice.  I will juice in the mornings and juice throughout the day when I get hungry.  In between those “meals” I will be drinking water only!  My exercise, at this time, will consist of walking/jogging.  I do have the P90X program and have intentions of using it within this time frame as well.  I will update once a week or so to let you know of any progress, changes or any problems I have.

Before I end this post I just want to add…..Changing your health habits is a big deal.  It takes time and dedication.  You cannot expect change to happen overnight.  No matter what you choose to do to make your life healthier, it will take time!  And changes do not have to be so radical either.  Instead of juicing, you could just add walking daily or eating more fruits and veggies or taking the stairs over the escalator…small changes make big differences too!  Don’t give up and don’t give in.  No one can make this change but you and you have to WANT to make this change.
